Include WHY in WalkMe Communications

Here's a common mistake I see teams make when building WalkMe™ Content.  They forget that no one likes being told what to do...

With a Digital Adoption Platform, it's easy to provide Click Here, Click Here guidance in the flow of work.

And these can have HUGE value for your organization.

But remember, there's a human on the other end of your messaging.

And humans need to be motivated to action.

If you take the same top-down "Command and Control", "Just Tell Them to Do It" (tm) communication style into DAP, you'll get the same poor results.

One simple technique:  be sure to include the WHY in your messaging.

Not just: “Click here to view report”.

Rather, start with:  “The organization is running a campaign to increase deposits by X in Q4 so we can do Y in 2024.  We need your help!”

Not just:  “Click here to update opportunity.”

Rather, start with:  “If we don’t have accurate data in the system then we can’t (fill in the blank) - forecast revenue, properly assign territory / quota, etc.  We're asking everyone in (𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲) to do X by Y date.”

Remember, to YOU as the IT / App Lead / Manager, it’s obvious.

You're steeped in all the management and financial comings and goings all the time.

But your end users?  They don't know that stuff.  Even though you emailed them.

So give the extra context.  Use DAP to give the bigger picture.  Give people a reason to do something.

What do you think?

Do your DAP communications motivate your end users?

Or are they purely prescriptive?
